About us
Regina and I have been married for 33 years, and still we walk hand in hand. And we have been trying to keep our hand in Jesus’ for more years than that! We have been best friends with our kids for most of our lives - and more kids keep joining the fold. They are some of the most important things we have in this life. Joining hands in a community of common-hearts is like a life-line to God for us. Our hands are small and weak, and often drop hold. But I think we are slowly getting stronger, and hopefully can be a steady grip for some who are adrift in life. That’s our goal.
We have lost our firm grasp on much of our stuff - it seemed so important before. But we have put our hands to the plow, tilling the African plain, sowing the seed of hope for a better life, looking for a harvest that will far outlast our own lives.
We invite you to come and join hands for a while - with us, with truth, hopefully with your Father and ours.
Our goal is to share our thoughts and lives in such a way as to inspire adoration to God, understanding of truth, and an example to follow.
Regina and I have left our home and ministry in Oregon, USA, to spend our lives in Africa. We were sent out from the church we served at (and helped plant) for 8 years - Open Door Community Church in Sheridan, Oregon. We still call it home. We are still vitally involved with the Mandate discipleship school that was also planted in our home, but is now quite a youth movement - at least in our small fish bowl! And the Agape Network of churches is the root of our spiritual DNA, and we still find some opportunity to serve there when we are in the States.
We began Orphan Hope ( a ministry of Open Door) in 2004 after we became personally impacted with the plight of the world’s orphans (see a video about our journey to adopt). Since then we have taken short term teams to Africa to become involved in the areas worst affected with HIV/AIDS, partnered with indigenous organizations that are working with orphans and vulnerable children, raised money to support them, and generally raised the banner in North America to the opportunity the church has to impact a continent for Christ by restoring so many young lives.
In 2007 we resigned from our church and began the process of moving to Africa to start a base of ministry in some area of need. We have joined All Nations and are currently living in Cape Town, South Africa, training young men and women, some of whom will go with us to plant transformational communities in places where God will send us. You can view this video that gives a visual summary of our work and our vision for the future: Loving the Least and the Lost, or visit our Orphan Hope website: Orphan Hope Website or blog: Orphan Hope Blog.
So if you would like to share with us in our ministry we would enjoy welcoming you in -
- we have a small team of monthly supporters that are looking for recruits
- we have a small prayer team that is serious about praying for us
- we have a large family of friends who write and donate occasionally
- and we have some who are joining us in Africa - short, medium or long term.
If any of the above apply to you, simply sign up as members to this site, and mention your desire to join one of the teams. And you can push the donate button if you wish and donate online, or we can send you and address to mail a check to. All donations in the US are tax-deductible.
